Robert Raben and David Grimaldi.

Few fields are changing as fast as intellectual property.  Navigating that shifting landscape is a core intellectual focus of The Raben Group.

The firm’s full-service legal, policy and lobbying work is anchored by Robert Raben’s experience as Counsel to the Judiciary Committee’s Intellectual Property Subcommittee and his commitment to IP policy at the Department of Justice.  Our attorneys understand and respect intellectual property – its precise law, policy, politics and trends.  Our deep experience allows us to work comprehensively, under privilege if necessary, to help you determine and drive your policy goals.

We have provided counsel to content owners, creators, consumers, networks, third-party carriers, trade associations and individual companies, helping them articulate their objectives and develop the strategy, tactics and communications to meet those needs.

In the private sector we have:

  • Helped Sony Music fight piracy and negotiate union disputes

  • Developed the strategy for the Recording Industry Association of America to have the federal government prosecute pirates

  • Created a strategy for NBC to engage with Hispanic Americans after the purchase of Telemundo

  • Defended one of the largest video game companies in the world, Take2, against censorship and attacks on video game expression

  • Created engagement strategies and best practices for the adult entertainment industry’s trade association, the Free Speech Coalition

  • Supported XM Radio’s efforts to fend off regulation of its business

  • Helped drive support for a national wireless broadband service for M2Z Networks

  • Advised Roche Pharmaceuticals on a patent/trade issue for one of its most important products

  • Supported Pfizer’s efforts to promote education about health care disparities that affect African Americans
