NANCY BUERMEYER is a Principal at The Raben Group, where she brings more than fifteen years of policy, political and advocacy experience on issues ranging from employment discrimination to fisheries resource management to privacy.  Ms. Buermeyer co-leads the firm’s practice groups on Heath and Education and Commerce and Financial Services.

In more than five years at The Raben Group, Ms. Buermeyer has handled a wide range of policy issues for the firm, including physician aid-in-dying, environmental health, fisheries management, workplace flexibility, free speech, financial services and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender discrimination.  Through lobbying, coalition building and policy analysis, Ms. Buermeyer brings deep experience, a strong command of both policy and process and a commitment to making positive change to her work for the firm’s clients.

Prior to joining The Raben Group, Ms. Buermeyer served in a variety of senior-level policy and political positions at the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest lesbian and gay political advocacy organization.  At HRC, Ms. Buermeyer developed proactive legislative strategies to raise awareness among members of Congress and the public on issues such as workplace discrimination, hate crimes and health care issues including HIV/AIDS.  Ms. Buermeyer led HRC's lobbying team in devising parliamentary tactics to achieve legislative successes on a number of high-profile issues, developed outreach strategies to the business community and sought to build bipartisan support for HRC initiatives.

Ms. Buermeyer began her career at the National Organization for Women (NOW), where she spent five years working with Congress and a spectrum of coalitions to raise awareness on issues such as violence against women, abortion rights, lesbian and gay civil rights, women in the military and economic issues.

Ms. Buermeyer earned her Masters of Science in Biological Oceanography from the University of Connecticut and her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
