DAVID GRIMALDI is
a Senior Counsel at The Raben Group, where he advises clients primarily on intellectual property, copyright and patent issues. Mr. Grimaldi previously served as Legislative Counsel to Representative Ed Towns (NY-10), a senior member of the House Government Reform and Energy and Commerce Committees.
Mr. Grimaldi advised Rep. Towns on matters coming before both full committees, but focused mainly on legislation arising under the Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet and the Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection. He assisted Mr. Towns on a variety of issues during the 109th Congress, including data security, the digital television transition, spyware and telecommunications franchise reform.
Additionally, Mr. Grimaldi served as the Congressman's chief liaison to the Telecommunications Development Fund, which was established by an act of Congress to promote competition and foster a deregulatory landscape in order to spur lower prices and offer more telecommunications and technology choices to consumers. Mr. Grimaldi was also active in international relations and participated in congressional delegations to the Middle East, Africa, Europe and China.
In November of 2004, Mr. Grimaldi served as a legal overseer for the Kerry/Edwards campaign in Ohio, where he assisted with preparations for the general election and monitored polling sites on election day.
Prior to his time with Mr. Towns, Mr. Grimaldi was an aide to former Housing Secretary Andrew Cuomo during his New York gubernatorial campaign. A Washington, DC native, Mr. Grimaldi earned a bachelor’s degree in English at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, followed by law school at Catholic University in Washington, DC. During law school, he worked in the chambers of Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and as a law clerk for the Office of the General Counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives. In addition to his current work at The Raben Group, Mr. Grimaldi teaches a course on legislative strategy and is a frequent commentator on a political news program.
Mr. Grimaldi is a member of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia.
