Jeanne Butterfield is one of the leading immigration experts in the United States. She brings a broad and deep knowledge of immigration law and policy to her work, as well as significant experience managing non-profit organizations and building collaborative relationships with volunteer leaders. Prior to joining The Raben Group, Jeanne led legislative advocacy and agency liaison work in support of needed reforms to our nation’s immigration laws.

Jeanne worked for over 15 years as advocacy director and then executive director of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the nation’s preeminent voluntary bar association. She managed AILA’s advocacy and media initiatives and oversaw its extensive government liaison and administration advocacy activities.

Prior to coming to Washington D.C., Jeanne served as executive director and legal director at a number of community-based non-profits in Massachusetts that provided pro bono legal services to refugees seeking asylum in the U.S. She managed teams of volunteer lawyers, paralegals and translators, and she represented clients in immigration court.

Over the past three decades, Ms. Butterfield has worked extensively on the full range of immigration policy issues facing our nation, including employment- and family-based immigration and refugee and asylum protection. She meets frequently with the various government agencies that implement our immigration laws and works with them to ensure that our laws and procedures are applied and implemented efficiently and fairly.

Jeanne completed her law degree at Northeastern University School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts, and her undergraduate degree at Michigan State University.
